Packing for winter trips in Kentucky

If you're travel plans include winter driving, there are some things you'll want to make sure and keep in mind.  It's always best to be prepared for any winter driving, because roads are always more dangerous in the winter.  Here are a few tips to make your winter travel safe and enjoyable.

  1. Bag of sand in the back.  If you’re car is rear wheel drive, a bag of sand will help with traction on ice.
  2. Make an emergency kit.  A 72-hour emergency kit is good to have in case of an accident or emergency.  Things to include in your kit:  water, flashlight, snacks, first aid kit and blankets.  Preparing for the worse-case scenario is always a best bet in winter travel especially with the risk of icy roads.
  3. Car charger.  Always keep a cell phone charger in your car when traveling in winter roads.  A great way to ensure that you will be able to get help in case of an emergency. This will also help you if you are running late, or have to stop overnight.
  4. Double check your Kentucky auto insurance before you head out on a long trip. Do you know exactly what you are covered for? Do you have all the necessary paperwork and information in your car in case of emergency?

As you travel this winter, remember to drive safely and have fun! Make the most of your winter travel this year.
