Being prepared is always the first line of defense if you're involved in an accident. You always want to make sure you have the right auto insurance and coverages in place, then take then following steps after the collision occurs.
- Always check 1st for any injuries. Obviously, if there are any injuries immediately call 911 to report. If there's only property damage, you can just call the police.
- Try and stay calm. Stay at the accident but move you and your car to safety. Don’t leave your car in traffic or stay to wait for police in a dangerous area.
- Don’t discuss who is at fault. Simply start to document until authorities arrive. Documentation at the scene is very important – exchange information and take pictures.
- Afterwards report to your insurance company. Be truthful and give all the information you collected to your agent.
